Acer launches new tablet PC

Acer India Pvt Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Acer Computer International, launched the fifth generation tablet PC Travel Mate C202, which featured the cutting edge Biometric Fingerprint Security, here Wednesday.

Acer India General Manager (Sales and Marketing) S Rajendran said the product, the latest in its series of tablet PCs, was powered by Intel Centrino mobile technology for breakthrough performance in mobile technology and featured for the first time Fingerprint Security and embedded security subsystem.

He said it was the first tablec PC to sport a patented sliding-track mechanism for one-of-a-kind convertible notebook functionality. The sliding track permitted one-motion convertibility between slate mode and notebook with 125 degree display angle, facilitating easier sharing of onscreen information and quicker information capture. The high contrast 12.1 inch LCD was tablet-optimised for improved reading and writing comfort.

The tablet PC, weighing about two kg, was integrated with swappable optical drive and finger printer reader, enabling secure, personal computing. It cost Rs 94,999 plus applicable taxes.

Mr Rajendran said the new tablet PC could be more useful in the healthcare sector as its unique features enabled doctors to increase their efficiency and maintain updated online records.

Mr Rajendran said the notebooks market had seen a phenomenal growth this year as over four lakh units were sold, as against 1,96,000 last year. Acer India, which enjoyed a market share of over 5.5 per cent with 24,000 unit sales during 2004-2005, registered a record growth of over 750 per cent in the country.
